Early Momentum Metrics: Why They Matter for College Improvement (posted 4/5/2018)
This brief makes the case for using three measures of “early momentum.” While long-term measures — such as completion rates and employment outcomes — will eventually signal the success or failure of reforms, colleges should initially focus on these near-term measures. PRACTITIONER, PRESIDENT, AND PARTNER PERSPECTIVES
Marty Cavalluzzi, President, Pierce College Puyallup, Pathways College (posted 4/5/2018)
We disaggregate our data, and we share it throughout the college. So, for example, every faculty member who’s been trained to use our Tableau dashboards can see their own data. And I mean it goes all the way down to the student level within a course, how they’re doing.
But they also can look at every other faculty member’s data. And so you have entire departments — for example, English — looking at each other’s and saying, “Okay, wait a minute. There are students — how are they doing from this class to the next to the next?” And it changes the conversation. It makes it much more meaningful and detailed.
